You’ve just had your new shower screens installed (by Adelaide Shower Screens no doubt!) and the difference they’ve made to your bathroom is huge. They’re effective at keeping water in your shower where it belongs, operate smoothly and the glass is absolutely sparkling.

Will your new shower screen still be looking brand new in several weeks, a few months or a year’s time, however? How can you keep the glass sparkling and looking like it was just installed?

Tips for keeping your new shower screen sparkling

Before we get onto our tips, it’s worth pointing out that unless you keep your shower as a showpiece and don’t use it (which kind of defeats the purpose!) your shower screens will get dirty.

Scum from soaps and shampoos will get on the glass and leave a grimy residue. Plus, water will leave stains and mineral deposits on the glass, and will eventually cause it to go cloudy.

So, here are our key tips to prevent this:

Prevent Soap Build up

The key with soap and shampoo scum is to prevent it from building up. If you have a hand-held shower head, you can use it at the end of the shower to remove soap residue from your shower screens, as well as other areas of your shower. You could also use a sponge, microfibre cloth or other soft cleaning cloth.

Use a Squeegee after each shower

Another excellent implement for keeping your glass shower screens clean is a simple squeegee. At the end of every shower, use your squeegee on all surfaces of the glass to remove the majority of water droplets.

Use a commercial shower cleaner

There are commercial products known as daily shower cleaners that can help prevent soap scum build up. Simply spray on after your shower. No rinsing is required.

Make your own shower cleaner

You could create your own daily shower cleaner, which is likely to be more environmentally-friendly and won’t cost the earth. A simple recipe involves combining 1 part white vinegar with 3 parts water.

A few drops of essential oil can also be added to mask the vinegary smell. Spray on after your shower and after you squeegee. Again, let it to do its work and don’t rinse.

Deep Clean Your Shower Screen

Our tips above will help to keep your new glass shower screens sparkling for longer, but a more thorough clean will be required eventually.

There are commercial shower cleaners available, but you don’t need to go out and purchase expensive products. A simple idea is to half fill a bucket with water and then add a small amount of dishwashing detergent.

Rinse your glass and the remainder of your shower enclosure. Then soak a soft cleaning cloth with your homemade solution and wipe all surfaces. To finish, rinse off.
